Female Photographers Project with Ladies Joint Forum (LJF)
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania / 2022
‘This is very important because the photography industry in Tanzania is male-dominated, and therefore now this project and this workshop has come to bring revolution to that ideology’

/ Project
Female Photographers Program (FPP) is an initiative by Ladies Joint Forum (LJF) to bring economic empowerment for girls and young women through their passion for photography.
The project aims to challenge the concepts and bring about a positive change to create more equal opportunities and representation for women within photography industry.
Through workshops, mentorships and ongoing support, FPP enables participants to turn their passion into sustainable livelihood, reducing rates of unemployment, minimising gap between gender inequality and providing better opportunities for women within marginalised communities.
/ Mentorship
‘As a mentor, I had an incredible honour to work with girls curating their portfolios, strengthening their social media skills, providing support on building their own brand and finding their own unique outlook within the industry. Together with participants, we established ways how to pitch to potential clients, how to present themselves and attract customers within their niche and create better work opportunities for women in photography industry.’

‘After the workshop and during mentorship, my career in photography has been improving so much. I became so confident and now I know my value.’
Samantha, program participant
‘This program has reached my expectations and exceeded them because I have learned a lot of technical parts and also how to manage my business as freelance female photographer.’
Rona, program participant
‘It has exposed me to so many inspiring places … and taught me to adapt to this industry which, at first, I thought would be difficult for me because I am a girl in the male dominated industry; but now, I see more opportunities in my job than any difficulties and obstacles.’
Felister, program participant

‘This program has transformed me into who I am, trained me and built me into a professional photographer.’
Rachel, program participant
/ Master Class
The Mentorship continued with a 3 day Master Class, aimed at providing additional support to prepare participants for Dar es Salaam - Hamburg 10 year partnership anniversary.
Following up with the workshop and training on Personal Branding, Portfolio building, Communication & Marketing skills as professional photographers, we’ve addressed final questions participants had to ensure they were properly prepared for their assignment documenting the event.
/ Final thoughts
‘My involvement with FPP was one of the most fulfilling experiences I had. From communication with the team at LJF from the very beginning, to creating mentorship objectives and working closely with each participant to find their unique views within this ever demanding industry, I’m incredibly honoured to have been able to be a part of Female Photographers Program.
The team behind FPP and their work, dedication and commitment goes beyond any obstacles, challenges and set ideologies within photography industry. Even though being mentor meant I was sharing my knowledge, I feel I was the one on the receiver’s end - the incredible passion for the craft, resilience and creativity of the team and the girls has left me forever inspired and grateful for this life-changing experience.’
